Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

What is this-

PRP injection therapy is a form of regenerative treatment for soft tissue, muscle, ligament or tendon damage or injury. The growth factors released by the platelets help to stimulate healing and the growth of new tissue. PRP injection therapy can be used to treat a number of conditions. I have listed some of them, by body part. Please note, this is ONLY a partial list.

Hip: Piriformis syndrome, sacroiliac joint pain, hamstring tears or tendonitis.

Knees: Tears or sprains of the knee ligaments, bursitis, patellar tendinosis and tendonitis.

Arm and Shoulder: Bicipital tendonitis, partial tears of the rotator cuff and also tendinopathy and tendonitis, tennis or golf elbow.

Feet and lower leg: Plantar fasciitis, ankle sprains, partial tears of the Achilles and tendonitis in this ligament.

Neck and Back: ligament sprains, muscle strains, and arthritis.

PRP injection therapy involves drawing a patient’s own blood, which is placed in a centrifuge. The PRP is extracted using a multi-step process. The platelets are concentrated and then injected into the damaged or injured part of the body. The number of times an individual will need to have this procedure done will depend on the seriousness of their injury and the body’s response to the treatment. In most cases, between 1 and 3 PRP injections are required. Usually 1 PRP injection per month for 3 months with a follow up injection at 6 months.

What to expect-

Wehn you come into the pffice, we will do an assessment to determine whether or not you are a good candidate for PRP treatments. Come well hydrated, as we will likely do the procedure within the same visit.

You will have your blood drawn into a special tube (RegenKit - BCT PRP), then your blood will be seperated into it's components in the centrifuge. The PRP will be extracted, and be injected into the site deemed appropriate for treatment.

This is an out of pocket expense. Your insurance will usually cover the cost of the office visit and blood draw, NOT the cost of the injection it self.

Trigger Point Injections

What this is-

Many patients can have pain. Dr. Patti Mullen provides an extremely effective treatment to reduce inflammation and pain that also stimulates natural healing. This is done through the use of injections of homeopathic products either into the muscles (Trigger Point injections) or under the skin (Neural therapy).

If you suffer from any of the following, therapeutic injections can help: muscle spasms, low back pain, sciatica, disc problems, muscle tension discomfort, joint strains/sprains, plantar fasciitis, nerve tingling in extremities, and other acute or chronic symptoms due to car accidents, sports injuries, falls, repetitive motion overuse, and/or fibromyalgia. This is especially useful when massage, chiropractic treatment, prescription drugs, and/or physical therapy have not provided satisfactory results. Therapeutic Injections are a viable and effective natural alternative to Cortisone shots.

What to expect-

The first visit will be an evaluation of your condition to assess whether or not injections are the treatment needed. After the evaluation, the patient will lay down or sit on the treatment table to receive the injections. Patients typically feel a mild to moderate stinging or burning during the treatment at the injection sight. This sensation will dissipate within a minute or so.

After treatment, there is a slight chance of bruising at the site of the injection. Pain relief and increased range of motion usually is obtained within just a few minutes after injections. This relief typically lasts for several days. As treatment progresses, the relief lasts for longer of time as healing of the tissue occurs. If treatment is received in conjunction with other therapies, such as physical therapy, chiropractic, and massage therapy, the effectiveness of the healing is increased.

B 12 injections

What to expect-

The first part of the visit is to assess whether or not a Vitamin B-12 injection are needed.Vitamin B-12 deficiencies can cause fatigue, poor sleep quality, trouble with concentration, peripheral neuropathy, PMS, jet lag, moodiness, dizziness, arthritis, bursitis, and chronic pain, along with many other symptoms and disease states. Injection B-12 is an effective way for your body to absorb this important nutrient. Some people may also benefit from a B-12 and folic acid combination.

The injection is given in the gluteus muscle. After the injection, some slight bruising at the injection site may occur. A series of injections may be needed before obvious effects occur. The effects of the injection often “wears off” after 3 days. Some people notice an improvement within 30 minutes of receiving the injection, while some other may not notice any effect until after the 3rd or 4th injection. The best results occur after a series of 6 injections, more maybe needed if you have been vitamin B-12 deficient for a long period of time.
